The Sweet & The Sour

(Can you tell I’ve been on an Ed Sheeran kick lately? And by lately I mean forever.)

We’re all bombarded every day by pretty pictures of the perfect lives of amazing strangers. Weather your social media of choice be Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or Snapchat, everyone’s sharing the sweet part of their lives with the world. I think it’s important to try to focus on the good in life but it’s also created a sense of perfectionism. People scroll through their feeds with a feeling of excitement (because everything is SO pretty) but it’s tinged with a pang of jealousy. We start thinking our lives aren’t as good as other peoples. It starts to bring our mood down a bit.

“I wish I had those white marbled countertops.” “I wish I had her perfect eyebrows.” “I wish I had that body, those clothes, that hair, more friends, better things, free makeup, sponsored posts.”

We follow these people’s lives wanting what they have, being unhappy with our own and wishing we were different. I know deep down you know things aren’t perfect for everyone. You know their lives aren’t perfect, you know your stuff is just as lovely, but sometimes we need a reminder. Maybe once in a while it would be nice to see both the good and the “bad”, and that’s what I’d like to do with these sweet & sour posts. Everyday the most amazing, magical, beautiful things happen but there’s also crummy things that happen. They may not be the worst things in the world, and I’m not sharing them in a whiny, ungrateful way. I just want to be the reminder that behind the pretty pictures there’s tantrums, marker on the walls and peanut butter on the pug.

Here’s todays sweet and sour:

The Sweet

Indie and I lay in her bed that her Papa made for her by hand reading books together. We opened the windows in our house to let the scent of the fresh Summer air come in. Indie had a bath and pretended to swim in the tub like she does at the pool. We made a tent, ate popcorn and watched Coraline. We listened to good music.

The Sour

Indie coloured on my white walls with marker. She made the biggest mess of the living room. She had an accident on the floor and I had run out of paper towel before it happened. Mabyn wouldn’t let me put her down for her afternoon nap, I had to hold her to get her to stay asleep. My dogs would.not.stop.barking.
